Welcome!
Eight retirement accounts…
Seven degrees…
Five kids…
Two properties…
ONE INCOME!
I LOOOOOVE numbers!!!
For the first 16 years of our marriage, one of us was usually in school. Then my husband graduated with his third (yes, third!) master’s degree with no plans from either of us to EVER return to school…maybe.
We realized that we had paid over $60,000 in tuition just for grad school–with no grad school loans!
Through it all, we managed to have five children, own a rental property that is dangerously close to being paid off (yay!), achieved over 50% equity in our primary residence, and really started gaining some serious traction toward retirement goals (sunscreen, please!). I know. I’m still surprised.
It’s not about how much you have.
It’s about how you use it.
After working in the mortgage and real estate industries while my husband was in school full-time (see a theme here) I gave birth to our first child and spent the next several years figuring out how to live on his teacher’s salary so I never had to return to work!
At Paint the Budget Black, I share our financial journey: the ups and the downs. We have made our share of mistakes, had some setbacks, but orchistrated some big wins as well.
So grab a chair, and let’s dig in!
